Spoke Too Soon ...

Unfortunately, our drainage problem was not completely resolved. We had a few days were it seemed everything was back to normal, then yesterday morning Brian put on a load of laundry and, surprise! Water on the floor in the workshop again.
We had someone come look at it today and figured out what the problem is. Now to get it fixed! Fingers crossed it is not too much of a hassle and not too much money!!

Brian, The HandyMan

It seems Brian has solved our drain/leak problem (fingers crossed!)
It turned out that the water was coming up through the drain in the floor of the workshop when we ran a load of laundry or drained the tub. So somewhere along the way, there was a blockage sending the water back into the house. Brian rented one of those snakes and sent 'er down the pipe! It reached all the way to the septic tank, so apparently whatever was blocking it was pushed out of the way. We ran the washer several times, filled and drained the tub, and there was no water in the basement! Yay! Grace was very eager to help and supervised in her rubber boots while we ran the washer to make sure the water wasn't going to come back up.
I have to give Brian credit. Since we moved into the new house, he has proved to be much more of a handyman than I thought he would be!

38 Weeks

It's safe to say I failed at updating weekly about this pregnancy. I suppose a weekly update may have been kind of boring. It's been a fairly smooth ride, with no major issues. I've been tired a lot lately, as can be expected, and my back and hips get sore if I am on my feet for too long at a time. I absolutely love feeling Baby kick and punch, and watching my belly move around.

For the most part, my cravings throughout this pregnancy were similar to my pregnancy with Grace. I can't get enough cereal. Not a certain type, so I stick to the less sugary ones, but I crave the crunchy texture with the milk. Speaking of milk, I wouldn't even want to guess how many liters of milk I've drank. Brian is a big milk drinker anyway, so between the 2 of us we go through several 4 liter jugs of milk per week. I've craved sweets a lot more this time around, and Pepsi. We never have pop in the house so I treat myself to a can of Pepsi when we go to my parents' house.

I went for an ultrasound today. Because I've been planning to try a VBAC, my OB wanted to see how big this baby is. At 38 weeks, Baby is 8lbs 9oz. (This could be off by up to a pound either way). My OB said Baby is "huge" and she anticipates that he/she will be close to 10lbs by my due date. Eeep! I'll be seeing my GP tomorrow and we'll discuss our plan. I won't be induced because I've had a previous c section, so Baby has more time to grow! Since I am already considered full term and Baby is full developed, s/he has nothing to do now but gain weight.

I haven't been feeling the nesting urge with this pregnancy at all. Likely because I'm tired after hanging out with a toddler all day. Baby 2.0 will be bunking in our room for the first while, then Grace will be sharing her room with her brother or sister so we didn't have a nursery to prepare. We did bring the bassinet up from the basement and washed it all up. We also got the swing and bouncy seat that we had been storing at Great Gramma's.

We can't wait to meet this little bambino and we're anxious to find out if Baby is a boy or a girl!

Wordless Wednesday

I showed this to Grace recently and she loves it. She doesn't watch a lot of tv (well, more than usual lately as this pregnancy progresses and I get super tired and sore.. but anyway) but we sometimes watch clips of old shows that Brian and I used to like. Now she'll ask to "watch mahna mahna Mommy?"

The Downside of Homeownership

We have a leak in our basement. We're not sure where the water is coming from yet, but last night there was water all over the floor of Brian's workshop, and it happened again this afternoon. I used the shop vac to clean up the water today; my back and hips did not appreciate it. Luckily Grace was napping, otherwise I'm sure she would have wanted to help which might have made things a bit more difficult. Brian is home now and trying to figure out where the water is coming from. I love that we have our own house, but the great thing about renting was being able to call the landlord and say "hey, come fix this problem!"

You've Got Mail!

Grace and I walk to the post office to pick up the mail once or twice a week. We live in a small community and the post office is actually in the basement of someone's house. The woman who lives/works there often has her cat, Coco, in the post office with her. Grace loves seeing Coco. As soon as we walk through the door she asks "where's Coco?" About two weeks ago we saw Ms. Postwoman at the grocery store. She came over to say hi to Grace and Grace looked at her, looked in her cart, and said "where's Coco?"

We picked up the mail yesterday and there was an envelope addressed to Grace. She was very excited! She recognizes her name so I pointed out that it had her name on it and she said "mail for Gracie!" She proudly carried it back outside to the stroller and put it in the basket. She was so excited to rip it open when we got home! Thanks for the card Aunt MaryAnne!

Missing: Patience

I seem to have lost my patience today. Grace dropped bits of her lunch on the floor and I instantly got frustrated. I'm just finding it so hard right now to bend over and clean things up! I want to run around and play with her but it's getting harder and I get tired a lot easier. I've been making sure to not let this show, but I've been feeling like a lazy mom lately. Only three more weeks till my due date! I can't wait to meet our new little bambino. I know he/she could come any time now, but I have a feeling s/he'll be late, just like Grace was.

Friday Night Leftovers

  • I was feeling so lazy this morning for some reason. Well, I suppose the reason is being 36 weeks pregnant and having a hard time sleeping at night. Anyway, Gracie and I played outside in the yard in our jammies because I didn't feel like getting us dressed.
  • I had a great birthday yesterday! I have entered the last year of my 20's... eep!
  • Grace and I went out for lunch yesterday with Auntie Murr, Aunt Nancy, Great Gramma, Great Aunt Marina, and Amy. It was lovely.
  • Our waitress commented on how quiet and well behaved Grace was. However, the waitress stayed away from our table when Grace had a little meltdown during dessert (it was an hour past her usual nap time. Overall she was awesome).
  • Gracie went to Zilla and Grampers' for supper and Brian and I went out to eat at a little Italian restaurant not too far from our place. It was great to go out for a nice meal without having to venture into the city!
  • We're going to a wedding tomorrow. Grace is spending the night with Zilla and Grampers and we're staying in a hotel. We're so happy for our friends and can't wait to see them get married! (Normally I would also be excited about being able to sleep in, but I'm usually up before Grace these days anyway).
  • Head over here for more leftovers.

Wordless Wednesday (Thanksgiving Edition)

Uncle Mike & Uncle Johnny seeing how far they can throw a grape and have the other catch it in their mouth.

Most of our family gatherings include an egg toss!

Gracie and Maddox walking through the path in Zilla's garden.

"Cool dude!"

*I guess it wasn't a wordless post after all!

Chatting with Gracie

"You ok Mommy?" (She says this if I cough, stub my toe, and sometimes just says it randomly throughout the day to make sure I'm alright. She also says the same to B, Zilla and Grampers to check in on them).

"Hi Daddy-O!" (I'm not sure where she picked this up, but she's started calling B Daddy-O. It is pretty cute).

"No biting Johnny!" (Uncle Johnny has always pretended to bite Gracie's cheeks when he gives her a hug. Now she says "no biting" as soon as he comes towards her, but still gives him a big hug!)

"Uncle Chair" (Uncle Johnny gave Grace a cute little lawn chair and she loves it. Every time she sits in it she says "new chair, Uncle Johnny" and when he comes over she says "Johnny! New chair! Downstairs!" but the other day she was all excited and was jumbling her words and said "Uncle Chair!" when he got here).

"No! My beard!" (Grace is very much in the "mine!" stage and Uncle Johnny was teasing her and tickling her arms, belly, and cheeks. She said "No! My arm! My belly! No! My beard!" I think you're getting carried away there, Grace. You don't have a beard).

"Need coaster pease!" (When we got our new kitchen table we started using coasters for our drinks so naturally she needs one too. If we forget to give her one she quickly reminds us).

Friday Night Leftovers

  • After 2 days without naps, I was glad Grace went down for a nap yesterday without a fuss. She slept for 3 hours to make up for it!
  • Even without napping she wasn't cranky, thankfully. Well, except when it was time to dry her hair and brush her teeth.
  • I'm so glad we signed Grace up for Wee Bears. She has so much fun!
  • I attempted to go for bloodwork today but didn't realize that the lab was only open this morning. We saw Zilla outside of her work and went for lunch with her and some of the ladies and gents that live there.
  • Grace had a good time, and enjoyed her treat of french fries and chocolate milk for lunch. I tried to give her some of my chicken but she wasn't interested!
  • Grace has been asking to play with play-doh a lot the past few days. This works well for me since I'm not exactly full of energy at this point in my pregnancy.
  • I really can't complain, I'm feeling pretty good. Just tired because I can't get comfortable at night to sleep and have to get up 4 times a night to pee. My back and hips are a bit sore. Can't wait to meet this little bean!

Bad Influence

I'm starting to wonder if Dolly is a bad influence when it comes to nap time. Grace hasn't had her usual afternoon nap for the past 2 days. She's always chatted to herself for a little while before going to sleep, but recently I've heard her scolding Dolly. "No Dolly! My blanket!" Perhaps I should blame Dolly for keeping her awake!

October

I love Fall and I think October is my favorite month of the year. The leaves are changing, I love the smells, it's my birthday month, and we have Thanksgiving thrown in there which means turkey dinner at Zilla's. Yum! This year, October also means we're getting really close to meeting our little bambino! (Due date is November 7th). We're getting really excited to meet this little babe, and find out if Grace will have a brother or sister!
