Friday Night Leftovers

  • Grace went to Zilla's work for the morning yesterday. She really enjoys going and the residents love seeing her.
  • I took Anna in when I went to pick Grace up. She is not a big fan of strangers. She did give out a few smiles, though.
  • I got some really good giggles from Anna yesterday afternoon. My fake sneezing was hilarious, apparently.
  • I can't wait for some nicer weather so we can get out walking more. One thing I miss about living in the city is sidewalks. It's hard to get out walking in our neighborhood when the shoulder of the road is covered in ice and snow.
  • Grace has been loving her digital camera that John and Becky gave her for her birthday. She loves to say "Say cheese, everybody!"
  • She doesn't quite have the hang of aiming it yet, so we get a lot of pictures of the floor.
  • Grace has been using the potty more and more. We've been encouraging her to use the potty but haven't really been potty training, exactly. But I think we might get more serious about it soon as she is starting to tell us when she needs to go.
  • Head over here for more leftovers.

Chatting with Gracie

"Mommy! I calling you! I knocking on the door!" - Said while she was supposed to be napping in her room.

"Anna snore like Daddy!"

"I love to see you!" - melt my heart!

"Ready or not, here my come!"

Me, to Anna: "Come here, booger."
Grace: "She not a booger, she Anna!"

"What's going on here in my house?" - said as soon as she walked into the living room after a nap.

"What matter Anna? You have mad face!"

"It's time for dance!"

Various things said regarding Anna drooling:
"She blowing bubbles!"
"Stop bubbling, Anna"
"She dripping!"

Tuesday Tune

We love Mumford and Sons in this house. Grace now asks to listen to 'Far-and-sons' (said as one word).

Alligators, Snakes, and Kangaroos, Oh My!

Yesterday we went to a reptile show. We went last year too and Grace enjoyed it, but wouldn't touch any of the animals except for the vulture. This year, she was really excited about seeing all the animals and touched everything she was allowed to! She loved the "addigator" and the kangaroo was her favorite. She was very gentle with all of the animals and was great about waiting her turn, and then moving on afterwards so that other kids could have a turn too. Memé and Papa were here for the weekend so they came along too.

Boxer, the kangaroo, was Grace's favorite.

With Lady, the 3 legged alligator.

Mommy being brave!

With Sherman the tortoise. She looks nervous here, but she wasn't.

"Look Mommy! He getting a bath!"

Excited talking to Daddy about the lizard!

Getting tired but still having a great time!

Baby Whale

I love all the pretend play Grace is doing lately! Today she was pretending that she had a baby whale. The whale was swimming down the hallway, and had a baby sister whale too. Grace was carrying the whale around, and asking me to help her carry the Mama whale, because she was "so big!"
When Grace woke up from her nap she immediately picked up the baby whale and showed Zilla. She brought the baby whale out to the living room and suddenly decided to eat it!
Grace: "I eat her!"
Me: "Oh, what did it taste like?"
Grace: "Tastes like play dough!"
Zilla: "How do you know what play dough tastes like? You're not supposed to eat it."
Grace: "Just little pieces."

Zilla and I were cracking up, it was so funny!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We don't usually do much for Valentine's Day, but I usually give Brian a card and he usually brings home flowers. Earlier in the week I was at the drug store and picked out a card. I didn't look at the price, assuming it would be $4-5. I think cards are ridiculously expensive anyway, so when I got to the cash with my card I was shocked to find out that the card was $8. Eight dollars! Brian, I love ya, but I'm not spending $8 on a card. I didn't buy the card and I told Brian about it later - he just laughed. Grace and I made him a card instead. Homemade cards are the best kind anyway.
I dressed the girls in red and pink and we went to Wee Bears. Grace handed out her Valentine's and got some from the other kids (and so did Anna).

Bath Buddies

The girls had their first bath together tonight! I was giving Anna a bath and Grace asked to get in too. She helped wash Anna's toes and belly and was very careful not to splash her even though Anna was kicking her feet and splashing Grace; it was so cute!

3 Months!

At 3 months:

  • Anna is smiling and cooing all the time.
  • She absolutely loves her big sister. Grace gets the biggest smiles from her. Anna smiles just from hearing Grace's voice; it's so sweet.
  • She will grasp and hang on to toys that we put in her hand.
  • Daytime sleep is getting slightly better. We occasionally get 1-2 hour naps in the bassinet, but they are not the norm. Usually her longest naps are in the Beco.
  • Nighttime sleep is still really good. She usually goes to bed around 8:00 and is up around 3:00 to eat, then sleep again until 5:30-6:00. We still have some nights where she is up multiple times.
  • She loves baths. We've starting using the big bathtub because she's getting too big for the baby tub.
  • She likes to be a part of the action. She likes to be involved while Grace and I play, read, and dance during the day. She usually sits in her bouncy chair on the table while we eat supper. She really seems to enjoy going to Kindermusik, Wee Bears, and Friendsday.
  • Her 0-3 month clothing is getting pretty tight. She mostly wears 3-6 now.
  • She sucks on her fingers and/or thumb all the time. I can't wait till she can use them to self soothe!

More Adventures in Baby Wearing

I posted about baby wearing here. At that time Anna was not a big fan of the Beco but I kept trying! Over the past month or so she has grown to like being in the carrier. Success! If she's tired I can often put her in the Beco and she will fall asleep within minutes. This is very convenient for a baby that doesn't sleep that much during the day (daytime naps are getting better, though!). Having Anna in the carrier makes it so much easier for me to do things with Grace and get things done around the house. Anna has her longest naps in the Beco!
