Seriously, Winter?

Spring officially started last week and yet we're supposed to get a huge snowstorm tomorrow. We could get 30-40cm of snow. Seriously!? I am so done with Winter!

"An intense and dangerous Nor'easter is forecast to impact Atlantic Canada starting Tuesday night with heavy amounts of snow, hurricane force winds and pounding surf/storm surge." Sounds lovely. The Weather Network is telling people to prepare for "near complete travel shutdown" tomorrow.

So we'll be hunkered down tomorrow, hoping that we don't lose power. I hope whatever snow we get doesn't last long and we can move on to more Spring-like weather!

Rubber Boots for Little Feet

I am finding it impossible to find rubber boots for Anna. I had the same problem with Grace! Do toddlers with size 4 feet not need rubber boots? Do my kids have small feet for their age? Maybe kids with size 4 feet aren't usually walking? I don't know. But it's frustrating! Over the weekend I had Anna in Grace's old size 5 boots (I ended up buying size 5 for Grace when she was Anna's age because I could not find size 4 anywhere). They're a little big, and they're not even real rubber boots because they velcro closures on the side and aren't fully waterproof, but she did pretty well in them.
I've been looking online and it seems there are a few brands that do come in size 4, but I really don't want to spend $60 on a pair of boots that Anna will probably wear for a couple months. But, having looked at a few of these options, I am thinking of investing in a good pair for Grace. She loves playing in the mud and jumping in puddles and all of the rubber boots she has had so far have either leaked or cracked. Her feet don't seem to grow very fast so I'm thinking if I order a size up from what she is wearing right now, they'll last her quite a while!

Photo Booth Fun

A photographer had a little photo booth set up at our local farmer's market a couple weekends ago. She had a background set up and some costumes and props. Grace wasn't too keen on the idea at first, but once she saw some other kids dressing up she decided it looked like fun. She picked out what she wanted to put on and we grabbed a straw hat and little skirt for Anna. Despite our best efforts, Anna was not in the mood to smile for the camera!

Clothes

So, this is what Grace's room looked like this morning (well, last night. I went in to check on her before I went to bed but I wasn't about to clean it up then!) When I asked her what happened she said "well, um, I, um, well, I was looking for my nightie and I had to move all of those clothes."
That's her latest thing - changing her jammies when she's supposed to be sleeping. She is obsessed with changing outfits lately. It started innocently enough - we'd come in from outside and she would want to change into a cozy pair of jammies. I never thought much of it and told her to go ahead. Now she changes her outfit a couple times a day and has started changing her jammies at night after we do stories and snuggles. If I ask why she changed her pajama's she will usually say "I was getting sweaty" and had to put on something cooler. She always has a reason for changing her outfit during the day too - "I really want to wear my cozy pants." "I need to wear my tutu and my tapping shoes to dance." "I got some oatmeal on my shirt so I had to put on this one instead."
Now I just have to get her into the habit of folding things back up and putting them away. She is a pro facecloth folder and likes helping me with the laundry so I guess I better teach her how to fold pants and shirts!

Yesterday

Some cute/fun/sweet/great things that happened yesterday:

  • We had a girls day out; just me, Grace, and Anna. We went shopping for rubber boots for Anna (which we didn't find. Why is it impossible to find rubber boots in a toddler size 4?), went to the Farmer's Market, and visited G.G. and Zilla.
  • I think Great Gramma was really happy to see us. We haven't seen her in a while because it seems like at least one of us has had a cold all winter and we don't want to get G.G. sick. We need to get out to visit her more often.
  • Grace said "You know what, Mommy? I love you." So sweet.
  • While we were in the car Anna kept reaching out to Grace and Grace was tickling her palm. Anna kept going back for more and I loved listening to the giggles coming from the backseat.
  • Brian made a big pot of spaghetti sauce while we were out so we had a delicious supper that the girls just devoured - it's their favorite!
  • Some extra long bedtime snuggles with each of the girls.
