Chatting with Gracie

Grace: Anna, get out of my house!
Me: You can't kick Anna out of the house.
Grace: She can go with Zilla!

"Sing louder! Whisper. Sing louder! Whisper." - She does this often when we're singing, and loves when I alternate between yelling and whispering the words. She does it herself, too.

"Come on, Bampers! Let's sing together!" - Not what Bampers wanted to hear, but he sang with her anyway :)

Me: I have a cold.
Grace: You cold, Mommy? Get on da couch. I get you a blanket.

"I like your slippers. They're pretty neat."

"I like your shirt. I like your arm. It feels nice. It's very soft."

"Let's do it!!"

"Eat your supper, Bear. And don't growl." - after bringing Bear to sit with us at the table one night.

"I can't wait to see my Johnny!" - said after Johnny and Becky were away for a week.

Me: You're beautiful.
Grace: Is Johnny beautiful?
Me: Johnny is handsome.
Grace: Just like Daddy!

"It's very... It's very garbage out here. It's very stinky out here. I think Daddy farted out here." - said while we were walking to the post office and she noticed the garbage in the ditch.

I put it in my pocket for safekeeping. - I'm pretty sure she picked this up from Dora.

And her favourite questions to ask people lately: What color your eyes? What's your full name? (She knows her full name as well as Anna's, mine, Brian's, and Bampers').
She also loves to introduce herself. "Hi! I'm Grace!"

Sleep (Or Lack Thereof)

I've posted a few times about how Anna does not like to nap. For the past few months she has rarely napped in the bassinet or crib, and the only way I could get her to sleep for any length of time was having her in the Beco or letting her sleep on my chest. Not ideal. There was the odd time she would have a 2+ hour nap in the bassinet and I would think "maybe she's turning over a new leaf! This is it!" But it was always a fluke.
I have to admit, sometimes this lack of napping has been extremely frustrating. For the most part, she's a very happy and content baby, even when obviously exhausted. But when she gets cranky and fights sleep for an hour, only to nap for 10 minutes, it drives me crazy. I don't know why she fights sleep so much, and has since she was 2 months old. When Grace was a baby, if she was tired she slept. That was all there was to it. At this age Grace had regular naps and was sleeping through the night.
Until recently Anna was sleeping great at night, which made her non-napping ways easier to handle. She was sleeping from 8pm - 5am so we decided to move her to the crib and have her share a room with Grace. This went well for a few days, but for the past few weeks she's been waking up 2-3 times per night. Because she's in Grace's room I've been going to get her quickly rather than let her fuss for a bit so that she doesn't wake Grace up. I'm not comfortable letting her cry but sometimes she wakes up and just makes noise and kicks her feet but I go get her anyway so she doesn't disturb Grace.
I've accepted the fact that we need to work on this. I've started to look into some sleep training methods, something I never even had to think about with Grace because she was such an awesome sleeper right from the start. We decided to give up the playroom for a while and move the crib in there so Anna can have her own room. We made the switch today and moved most of the toys downstairs. Grace seems excited to have a 'new' playroom in the basement so hopefully she won't miss having one upstairs (the only downside is that it is less convenient for me to have it downstairs).
My plan this week is to really work on getting Anna into a regular nap routine and hopefully get her sleeping for more than 10 minutes at a time. Wish me luck!

This Doesn't Happen Very Often...

The girls are currently napping at the same time. That is all.

Anna's First Trip to CB

We went to CB for the first time as a family of four last weekend. Anna proved to be an awesome traveler! We were expecting to stop at least twice, including a stop for lunch (it's about a 3 hour drive with no stops). Anna was having such a good snooze and then Grace fell asleep about halfway there so we decided to go for it and try to make it the whole way and we did!
We had a great time visiting with family. Grace loved having so many different toys! I'm pretty sure Memé and Papa have more toys at their house than we do here! We went out to feed the ducks by the river which Grace loved, but the ducks were aggressive! She like it but was a little freaked out too.
We went to Memé and Pepé's for lunch on Sunday before we left for home, as we usually do. I'm pretty sure we've been doing it since the first time I visited CB with Brian.
Grace slept part of the way home and Anna slept almost the whole way. She woke up when we were about 10 minutes from home and started fussing, but overall she was great! (Grace was a great traveler too, as usual!)

Anna loved this.

Feeding the crazy ducks!

There were ducks running from all over the place, crossing the river to get to us!

Grace got a little nervous. Some of them were big!

Grace isn't too sure about having a duck this close! Papa got pooped on right after this picture!
At Memé & Pepé's house.
They gave Grace some bubbles!
Watching a movie on the way home.

Easter Recap

We had a great Easter weekend: a visit from Memé & Papa, a trip to the farmers market, Grace's first egg hunt, and some great weather for lots of time outside. The girls got dressed up and had a little tea party earlier in the week.

Tea Party!

Pretty excited about yogurt covered raisins.
Egg hunt!

More eggs outside

Climbing the hill to get more eggs!

Through the trail

An egg in the nest!

It was such a beautiful day. Anna slept here for almost 3 hours

5 Months!

At five months, Anna:
  • Has shown us that she can roll from back to tummy and from tummy to back, but she doesn't do it very often.
  • Still hardly sleeps during the day. She will have a few small cat naps throughout the day. A 5 minute nap is somehow enough to recharge her for several more hours. She will sleep longer in the Beco or laying on me so she usually sleeps on my chest while Grace naps. I don't mind it actually, but nothing gets done around the house during nap time!
  • Has a few favorite toys: her taggie blanket, a chain of plastic rings, and she loves the dragonfly on the exersaucer.
  • Had her first trip to CB! She was a great little traveler.
  • Loves the jolly jumper.
  • Has had her first cold! Poor thing, it's hard to see such a little baby sick. Grace didn't get her first cold until she was over a year old! I guess that's what happens when you have a toddler bringing germs into the house.
  • Is a very happy, smiley baby. She has beautiful chubby cheeks (naturally) and she loves to laugh with her big sister.
