Friday Night Leftovers

  • B has been working evenings this week. While it's nice to have him home with us in the morning, I do miss having his help at supper/bath/bed time.
  • We called Grampers yesterday to wish him a happy birthday. Grace yelled her 'happy birthday' to him while I was talking to him on the phone. I put the phone to her ear so Grampers could talk to her and she was completely silent.
  • I love watching her when I hold the phone to her ear. At first she would look at me, realize I wasn't the one talking, then she would look around the room. Now she usually just sits very still and listens. Zilla or Great Aunt T will sing to her on the phone and she just sits and smiles. When I'm on the phone, she yells in the background.
  • We had a small mishap at the grocery store yesterday. There weren't many carts to choose from so I had to take one without a seatbelt. We were about halfway through the store and Grace started to get squirmy. I was grabbing something off the shelf and she leaned too far over and hit her head on the side of the cart. She only cried for a minute, but I had to carry her for a while and push the cart with one hand - not an easy task! Especially because I always manage to pick that cart. The one with a bad wheel that doesn't want to turn.
  • Grace's swing, bouncy chair, and the base of the exersaucer are finally out of our living room! We've been meaning to take them to Great Gramma's for a while now, to store in her basement. We had a nice visit with GG too.
  • B got up with Grace this morning so I could sleep in. It was lovely! I think they enjoyed their Daddy-Daughter time too; they spent the morning playing and made a trip to Tim Hortons.

A Notable Day

Today is a day worth noting. Grace has been out of the womb for as long as she was in! She was born at 41 weeks + 3 days.

Today is also Grampers' birthday!

   Happy Birthday Grampers!

Friday Night Leftovers

  • Today is the first official day of Fall - my favorite season!
  • I love everything that comes along with Fall - the cooler temperatures, changing leaves, plus it means I'm wearing jeans and a hoodie again: my favorite combo.
  • I went shopping for new fall clothes for Grace (courtesy of Great Aunt C!) and picked up some cute jeans and hoodies for her too :)
  • The construction on our street was finally finished two weeks ago. Because we're at one end of our street, it really wasn't that bad for us except when they were working right in front of our house. The amount of dust in our living room was annoying though.
  • I found a Halloween costume for Grace! I've tried it on her several times because it's just so darn cute!

Nine Months!

We've been busy so this update is a little late. Grace turned nine months old on September 13. I can't believe we're less than three months away from her first birthday!

Grace's army crawl is getting faster! She will get up on her knees but doesn't move much that way, she prefers to drag herself along on her belly. The baby gates are up and we're still doing some baby-proofing around the house. She can pull herself up to her knees but has to be helped into a standing position (she loves to stand).

She still has no teeth. She loves to talk and babbles all day long. She can clap and wave. She was signing 'milk' but is now doing it less consistently, but she clearly knows what it means.

Grace loves animals and gets really excited by them. She loves crawling after Cuda at Zilla and Grampers' house or Gizzie at Meme and Papa's house. She loves toys that light up and make music, and especially likes standing at her Leapfrog table. She loves chewing on her board books and likes when I read to her.

She loves to drink water, especially from a glass. We tried giving her thicker, lumpier purees but she's not very fond of them; she's been doing great with finger foods.

Grace weighs about 20 lbs now! We're still using her infant car seat but she's too heavy to carry around in it. We'll be switching over to the big girl car seat very soon. She's all over the place with her clothing sizes: 6-12 month pants, shirts anywhere from 6-18 month sizes depending on where they're from and she'll soon be wearing the 18-24 month size sleepers. She wears size 3 diapers.

Catching Up

It's been a little while since my last real post, so I figured I'd just write out what we've been up to lately.

We haven't been home very much. We spent most of last week visiting with B's family in Cape Breton. Grace met her Tante C for the first time! She took to her right away and was full of smiles; she didn't play strange at all. Cousin K was visiting as well! Meme and Papa were kind enough to have Uncle Mike over for supper while we were there (he's going to school in CB) and we picked up an ice cream cake for his birthday.
Grace showed off her crawling skills to all of the fam. She loved crawling after Papa's dog. She loves animals. She even gets excited seeing birds in our yard out the window.
We left on Friday with a car full of toys and some of Meme & Pepe's homemade soup. B had softball playoffs this weekend. They didn't win, but Grace and I had fun cheering them on. We were all ready to go to the game on Sunday morning, and stopped at Shoppers on our way. When I came back out to the car, it would not shift out of park - the button on the shifter wouldn't even budge. I was so frustrated! Thankfully, Granzilla was in town at the game already and came over to pick us up and take us home. Even better, my 'brother' Craig (he's been best buds with my bro's since they were kids) checked out the car and got us a temporary fix!
Yesterday was B's last day of vacation. We spent the morning grocery shopping and running errands. One of the baby gates is up; we still have some more baby-proofing to do around the house. We spent the afternoon at Zilla and Grampers' house. I wish B didn't have to go back to work!

Offline

We've been away all week and I haven't been on the computer at all. It made me realize how much I am enjoying keeping this blog! I kind of missed posting on here. When I started this blog, I really wasn't sure if I would keep it up but I've surprised myself.
We're home now, but I have stuff to unpack and laundry to do so I'll write a little bit about our week later. I'm looking forward to it! ;)

Friday Night Leftovers

  • Grace's army crawl is getting faster! She will get up all her hands and knees, but has yet to move around that way.
  • She had a great time chasing Cuda at Zilla's earlier this week.
  • It was funny to watch Cuda 'play' with Grace. When Grace got close, Cuda would move about a foot, then let her get close again, and move, and she kept doing this all across the kitchen floor!
  • Grace did manage to grab Cuda when she wasn't looking and drag her a few inches. Cuda just meowed and walked away. I'm very impressed with how calm and gentle she is with Grace, considering she isn't around little kids very much.
  • Uncle Mike is going to school for the year, 3 hours away. We're giving him our old laptop and he has a webcam so he can keep in touch with his favorite niece!
  • We had a playdate yesterday with some of Grace's baby friends! It was her first time meeting the twins; it was fun to watch all the girls crawling around and interacting with each other.
  • After no signs of teething for almost 9 months, it came on full force last night! Crying, drooling, chomping on teething rings and frozen facecloths, and doing weird things with her mouth and tongue. Poor little bugger. She was up for about 2 hours and finally fell back asleep with some help from Tylenol.
  • She seems fine this morning. We'll see what tonight brings!
  • B is on vacation as of 4:30pm today! Yay!
  • Head over here for more leftovers.

Photo Shoot

My friend Jenn is a great photographer. She took our wedding photos and most recently took these photos of Grace. I love all of them!

Friday Night Leftovers

  • Grace is crawling! I'm amazed by the progress she's made in such a short time. She's pretty quick!
  • She's doing an army crawl and not using her legs much, but I'm sure it won't be long before she gets the hang of it.
  • She started crawling on Wednesday morning and got to show off her new skill to a few people that day. We went to visit Great Gramma, then to Zilla and Grampers' house for supper.
  • We also went to visit Zilla at work on Wednesday. She works at a nursing home and we've taken Grace in a few times. The residents just love seeing her, and Zilla loves showing her off.
  • Grace is sitting in the cart like a big girl at the grocery store now. She seems to really enjoy it.
  • I wish I had an excuse to buy school supplies. I've always loved back to school shopping!
  • I miss school. I wish I could be a professional student.
  • This morning Grace got herself into a sitting position from laying on the floor!
  • We're thinking about Halloween costumes for Grace. Not sure what she will be yet...

Will Crawl for Gold

Grace is crawling! Army crawling so far, and it's the cutest thing! She started really moving yesterday, as B lured her across the floor with his gold chain. Every time B holds her, she immediately reaches in his shirt looking for the chain, so it turned out to be a good motivator to get her moving! Prompted B to give her a new nickname (you'll hear it at the end of the video).
