E-I-E-I-O!

Grace loves singing Old MacDonald. We sing it a lot - at home, in the car, at the grocery store. She even sings along now! Zilla bought her an Old MacDonald book that came with a CD; Grace loves it. She will point to the book or carry it over to us and say "E-I-O!" She will point to animals in the book and make the animal sounds, it is the cutest thing.

14.5 Months

I started a 14 month update post but never finished it. I haven't been blogging as much since going back to work! Here's what's new with Gracie:
  • I think it's fair to say that she is a walker. She will still crawl if she wants to get somewhere quickly, but for the most part she struts around on 2 feet.
  • She has 11 teeth. She recently got 4 molars, all at once. It was not pleasant.
  • Her vocabulary is increasing daily! I'm not sure how many words she knows now, probably in the 20-30 range. She is constantly mimicking us and repeating things we say. Some of her latest words are Elmo, hummus, more, and please.
  • She likes to dance. She does this little shimmy with her shoulders, especially when we say "wiggle wiggle wiggle!" She squats and shakes her little bum too, it is so cute!
  • She still loves the water and always has a ball when we go to swimming lessons.
  • She likes to give high five's and blow kisses.
  • She's starting to give kisses. Before when I would ask for a kiss she would give me a hug and lay her head on my shoulder. Now she leans right in and puts her lips on my cheek. Melts my heart.
  • She loves to read. She plays with her books far more than any of her other toys. I love when she grabs a book and walks over and plops herself down in my lap to read.
  • She wears size 4 shoes and mostly 12-18 month clothing.

Weekend Update

I miss being home with Grace throughout the week. I find myself longing for the weekend as soon as Monday rolls around! This weekend was busy but lots of fun.

Auntie Murr had been talking about coming to Grace's swimming lesson for a little while. Uncle Mike was in town this weekend so he came too and took Grace in the water while Auntie Murr and I watched from the side of the pool. It was so cute! Grace absolutely loves being in the water so she had a blast, as usual. I think Uncle Mike enjoyed himself too! They were both full of smiles as they splashed around. Grace was trying to blow bubbles in the water but doesn't quite understand that she has to blow; she just sticks her face in the water, which sometimes results in her swallowing a little water. Uncle Mike even dunked her under and she didn't mind! I've only dunked her once and she hated it. She'll be jumping off the side of the pool like the big kids in no time!

On Saturday afternoon we went to a birthday party for our daycare provider's son. It was at one of those indoor playgrounds which was pretty cool! Grace had a great time playing with all the different toys and exploring the lower part of the play gym.

On Sunday morning, Grace's teeth were really bothering her. She has four molars coming in at once! We had planned to go check out Little Ray's Reptile Zoo at exhibition park, so after a small breakfast and some Advil we decided to head out anyway. Getting out in the fresh air and having lots to look at put Grace in a better mood. Our friends Aleah and Angela came too! Grace didn't care much for the alligators, turtles, or snakes and didn't want to touch them, but she kept pointing at the turkey vulture saying "Birdie!" We were over by that bird several times so she could touch it's feathers, she loved it. We watched a couple of the presentations and Aleah volunteered to help carry one of the huge snakes.

We headed down to see Zilla and Grampers' for the afternoon. As the afternoon wore on, Grace got increasingly cranky and her teeth were making her uncomfortable. We forgot to bring the Advil with us so B ran out and got some and it made a huge difference. She didn't eat much at supper and since we were having one of her favorites - spaghetti - you could tell she wasn't feeling 100%. She had a quick bath after supper and some grandparent snuggles and we headed home.

Here's some photos from our weekend:

Playing at the train table at the birthday party.

Checking out the indoor playground!
Grace had a great time walking in and out of this little castle, opening and closing the door.
At the reptile show. She didn't want to get too close to the alligator!
Birdie!

Back to see the bird again with Daddy!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm not big into Valentine's Day, but I had a great evening with people that I love!

B and I had our date night on Saturday (thanks to Zilla and Grampers) and B is working evenings this week so I didn't plan to do much today. Great Aunt Mary-Anne picked Grace up from daycare. They bought supper and were at the house when I got home. We had a nice supper, and Great Aunt Theresa came over too! Mary-Anne let Grace pick out a treat at the store and she threw a tray of mini cupcakes in the cart, so we gave her one for dessert! This girl loves her sweets, just like her mama. (Don't worry, we don't let her eat stuff like that all the time!)

It was a lovely evening with two of my wonderful aunties, and my favorite little lady! And despite the fact that we said we weren't buying each other anything, I came home to a dozen red roses from my amazing husband!

14 Months

Our baby is 14 months old today!
Her birthday buddy was here for a visit this evening. I haven't written an update post yet, but I'm working on it!

Happy 14 months, beautiful girl!

Sleeping In?

Does 7:45am count as sleeping in?

Grace went to Zilla and Grampers' house yesterday for a sleepover. B and I spent the afternoon cleaning the house - I'm talking moving furniture, cleaning out kitchen drawers, the works. We went to our favorite Thai restaurant for supper then came home, relaxed, and watched a movie. We were both looking forward to sleeping in, even though B expressed his doubts that I would sleep in at all. It seems I am incapable of sleeping in, even when there is no baby in the house to wake us up!

I woke up several times this morning and refused to look at the clock and tried to force myself back to sleep. After tossing and turning I realized I was not getting back to sleep and looked at the time - 7:45. We're usually up around 7:00 if Grace is home, so I guess I slept in, right? Ah, well. I'm sitting in a quiet house having a cup of tea; B is snoring away. Looking forward to a nice Sunday breakfast, then spending the day with my family!

Slow Cooker Success

We had our first slow cooker meal tonight! B bought one last week; we had been talking about getting one since I went back to work, and he saw one on sale while he was out and picked it up.

I must admit, I thought about the slow cooker a lot at work today. I have a thing about making sure small appliances are unplugged before I leave the house - the hair dryer, flat iron, Tassimo, etc. I couldn't help but worry that something would go wrong with the slow cooker while we were out! (And I'm not usually a worrier).

I came home to a yummy smelling house and a great supper that was ready as soon as we got in the door. Grace enjoyed it, and so did Mommy and Daddy. I'll be on the hunt for slow cooker recipes now! Hello Pinterest!

Friday Night Leftovers

  • Last Saturday Grace finished a 10 day round of antibiotics for an ear infection. That night, she broke out in hives. On Monday, it seemed like she was getting a cold, so on Tuesday, B took her to the doctor. She still has an ear infection, and now has different antibiotics.
  • She's handling it pretty well, I must say. She's been clingy and cranky off and on this week, but today she is much more herself. Fingers crossed she's finally on the mend!
  • Our daycare provider's son had pink eye so Grace was kept home for 3 days this week - 2 with Daddy and 1 with Mommy.
  • Daddy was tired right out after his 2 days! ;)
  • I posted here that Grace started walking. She's taking more and more steps all the time, but she still gets around mostly by crawling.
  • Grace's vocabulary is increasing constantly! She is such a little chatterbox.
  • Head over here for more leftovers!
